Polygon, previously called Matic Network, is a layer-2 blockchain that exists on top of the layer 1 blockchain — Ethereum. This enables the minting of NFTs to take place outside the Ethereum network, avoiding the high gas fees.
Polygon is home to some of the world’s leading brands in web3 with names like Sandbox, and Decentraland, placing Polygon as a leader for mass adoption from both crypto and non-crypto native worlds.
Furthermore, Polygon has a low gas fee of $0.0025 on average and high throughput of being able to process up to 7,000 transactions per second, which shows huge potential to bring a larger audience to the chain.
We also took a look at the whole ecosystem in a holistic manner and cannot overlook the demand for scaling solutions and projects in an EVM-based environment. Ethereum layer-1 continues to be the dominant space with the most liquidity. Over the past year, Polygon Technology and Polygon Studios have been making important strides to develop their EVM-based ecosystem.
